1969 NY METS WORLD SERIES TRIBUTE

This display does nothing less than evoke wonderful memories of that special year when everything was going the New York sports fan's way. In Football, Joe Namath and his Jets accomplished the impossible when they defeated the mighty Colts of Baltimore to win Super Bowl III. In basketball, Willis Reed and Walt Frazier were leading their Knicks on to the NBA Championship. In baseball, glorious baseball, Tom Seaver and a bunch of guys nobody had ever heard of, like a wild young pitcher named Nolan Ryan, first vanquished the Chicago Cubs to win the National League Division, then defeated Henry Aaron and the Atlanta Braves to win the National League pennant and then dismantled the powerful machine that was the Baltimore Orioles to win the World Series. What a year if you were a New York fan!

Displayed on a field of blue measuring 40 x 39 inches you will first find the focal point of this montage, an original 1969 (Mets version) World Series Program, signed on the cover by 29 members of that Amazin' team. Flanking the program are two photos depicting the utter pandemonium that occurred at the moment the Mets became the World Champion Mets.

Under these artifacts are all 5 tickets from the 1969 World Series, a series where the heavily favored Orioles managed to win but a single game. Below the tickets is a pennant from the very beginning of the Mets, which serves as a reminder that the Mets were only in their 8th season as a professional baseball team when they rambled to the pinnacle of the sport.

Set under the pennant is a 1969 Mets team photo, and an engraved plaque detailing the unlikely and all but impossible, yet true ending to the fairy tale story that was the 1969 Mets.
